Chattanooga Overview
Welcome > Local Info > Chattanooga Overview ...

Chattanooga :

Location :

Chattanooga
is located in the heart of the beautiful Tennessee Valley is a small industrial city rich in history and the fourth largest city in the State of Tennessee.   It is becoming well known today for its commitment to sustainable economic growth and quality of life.  Chattanooga is one of the cleanest cities in the U.S. known especially for its breathtaking beauty and natural attractions.  The city boasts a vital and diverse economy, rich cultural history and  gleaming new downtown attractions loved by residents and visitors alike. The mountains and valley around it shelter the city from major weather systems.

Climate :  Chattanooga has  a pleasent mild climate with cool winters and hot summers with springs and falls characterized by plentiful sunshine and rainfall.  Extreme cold is rare and the annual average snowfall is only 2.8 inches.

Population :  The number of people (2008) in the Greater Metro Chattanooga area was 518,500 with 170,900 people in the City.

History :  With European settlement in the colonial period (1700s) Tennessee became the sixteenth state in 1796.  Ross's landing was the beginning of Chattanooga in 1816 as a trading post on the banks of the Tennessee River. Settlers began to replace the Native American Cherokee Nations ending in the shameful episode know as the "Trail of Tears"  when the Cherokee where driven from their homes for expulsion to Oklahoma.  The name Ross's Landing was changed to Chattanooga in 1838 and with the coming of the railroad in 1850 the city quickly became an important railway hub.

The Chattanooga area became one of the key battlegrounds during the Civil War  as both the Confederate and Union armies attempted to keep possession of this now important railway junction. Following the war, the city began to experience economic progress and Chattanooga prospered with rapid industrialization until the Great Depression in the 1930s. Following further decline after WW II the city has had revitalization since the 1980s with much downtown and infrastructure redevelopments. Much of the downtown and waterfront area restorations have made use of the natural riverside beauty.  The
Tennessee Aquarium  has become a major waterfront attraction enhancing neighborhood development and over the last ten years the city has won three national awards for outstanding "livability", and nine Günter Ribbon Awards for excellence in housing and city planning.

Education :  Chattanooga has several Universities and Colleges including the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga  which dates from 1886 and other educational institutions including the Southern Adventist University (1892),  Chattanooga State Technical Community College (1965),  and Tennessee Temple University (1946).

Recreation :  Chattanooga is visited by over four million people each year who come to enjoy and explore the cities past and present and take part in the rich cultural activities available.  The Children's Creative Discovery Museum the Hunter Museum of American Art the Chattanooga Regional History Museum and the Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park are all very popular and a joy to visit with something for everyone.  The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum offers an impressive collection of classic railroad memorabilia.  Visitors are even able to ride on a steam powered train around the 40 acre museum site.

Proximate :  The city has a total area of 143.2 square miles. The most prominent natural features in and around Chattanooga are the Tennessee River  and Valley and the surrounding highlands.

Rural Charm : The city is nestled between the southwestern Appalachians with much natural and historic scenic beauty. Here's a Website that captures many facets of Chattanooga Living.

Easy Access :
Road transport is served by Interstates to Atlanta, Knoxville and Birmingham. Chattanooga and the surrounding area are served by the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.

Real Estate Tips
Selling Your Home >Real Estate Agent Advantages

How do real estate agents sell homes? When a professional real estate agent is retained to sell a home, the agent will develop a marketing plan that has proven effective for selling homes quickly and for the maximum sale price.

The real estate agent will perform a market analysis, comparing the home with similar homes in your neighborhood that have recently sold. Your agent will evaluate the current real estate market in order to develop a price opinion for your home. The next step will be to make recommendations about preparing your home so that it is presented to its best advantage. A description of the home will be uploaded into the local Multiple Listing Service, and your agent will implement a marketing plan tailored to your home.

By listing your property, you expose it to thousands of real estate agents throughout the region. MLS exposure is one of the most valuable services a real estate agent can provide sellers. Real estate professionals aslo network with other agents in their office when they bring new listings to the market. Does this system work? 85% of the homes sold today use this method. Enough said!
